Acadian Coastal Drive – Fundy Coastal Drive


Day 1 : Cape Jourimain to Moncton (101 km / 61 mi.)
Cape Jourimain Nature Centre Inc. – Cape Jourimain
Through a full range of interpretation and educational services, visitors will learn about the natural and cultural history of this panoramic coastal setting overlooking the Confederation Bridge, connecting New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Visitors will enjoy an Interpretation Centre, observation tower, over 17 km (10.5 mi.) of hiking trails with scenic lookouts, a restaurant and a nature store. Fort Beauséjour National Historic Site of Canada – Aulac
Step back in time to an era when England and France were caught up in a tug-of-war for supremacy in Acadia. You will learn about the origins and history of the area's inhabitants. Star-shaped Fort Beauséjour, overlooking the Bay of Fundy, was built by the French in 1751 to defend their interests in the isthmus of Chignecto. The fort was taken in 1755 by the British and renamed Fort Cumberland, and repelled American and local rebel attacks in 1776. Reinforced for the War of 1812, it was abandoned in 1835 and declared a National Historic Site in 1926. Suggested time: 1 hour. TradeSmart.

Sackville Waterfowl Park – Sackville
Located in the heart of town, this beautiful park setting provides excellent birdwatching, Interpretative Centre and modern amenities. Monument Lefebvre National Historic Site of Canada – Memramcook
The Monument Lefebvre National Historic Site commemorates Father Camille Lefebvre, founder of the first French language degree-granting institution in Atlantic Canada. This site also houses the Acadian Odyssey National Historic Site which is interpreted by the new permanent exhibit "Reflections of a Journey: The Odyssey of the Acadian People", which showcases the remembrance and celebrates Acadia from the Great Upheaval to the present day. Day 2 : Moncton to Hopewell Cape to Saint John (230 km / 138 mi.)

New Brunswick’s most famous geological feature – home to the world’s highest tides! On par with the Great Barrier Reef of Australia, you can walk on the Bay of Fundy's ocean floor and learn about the region's natural history at The Hopewell Rocks Interpretive Centre. The gravitational pull of the sun and moon causes tides that rise and fall up to an incredible 14 m (48 ft.) twice a day - every day! This is the only place where Bay of Fundy tides are interpreted. Whether you wander through a lumber camp, examine a 14-m (45-ft.) long Right whale hanging above your head, or stroll through one of three art galleries, the New Brunswick Museum is a modern museum that takes you through 350 million years of natural history. Day 3 : Saint John to St. Martins ( 43 km / 26 mi.)

Once a shipbuilding centre, this gateway to The Fundy Trail is famous for its red cliffs, echo caves and birdwatching activities. The picturesque fishing village of St. Martins offers you a beautiful window through which to take a peek at life into what was one of New Brunswick’s thriving shipbuilding locales of years past.

One of the last remaining coastal wilderness areas in North America is now accessible to the world via the Fundy Trail. Breathtaking vistas, flora, and fauna abound in this multi-use corridor hugging New Brunswick’s majestic Bay of Fundy – One of the Marine Wonders of the World. Visit one of the dozen observation areas and lookouts where you just might catch sight of whales feeding along the coastlines sculptured by the highest tides in the world. With 11 km (7 mi.) of spectacular coastal roadway and a 16 km (10 mi.) network of trails, “It’s Spectacular From Every View!” Whether by motorcoach, car, biking, walking, or hiking the trail will lead you to the Interpretive Centre at Big Salmon River where you can enjoy refreshments or a light lunch.
